The Journalist Connection

The Journalist Connection seeks to give an opportunity to people who live in conflict zones to earn an income by reporting their experiences and offering insights into the changing realities of their communities, thereby expanding the scope of public information while creating jobs in areas that suffer from high rates of unemployment.

For each report that is published on this website the author receives a payment as well as compensation for any necessary expense. In Afghanistan, where a schoolteacher typically earns 60 USD per month, The Journalist Connection pays its reporters 30 USD per article, providing a steady source of income for all contributors.

After a successful pilot program in Afghanistan, The Journalist Connection is currently expanding its operations to Colombia, Mexico, Iraq, and Somalia. To do this, The Journalist Connection relies on grants and donations as well as in-kind support such as media equipment and professional services.
